RSF killed at least 16 civilians in North Kordofan, doctors say

August 8, 2025 (EL-OBEID) – At least 16 civilians were killed and dozens more were injured or are missing after attacks by Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in North Kordofan state, a Sudanese doctors’ group said on Friday.

The Sudan Doctors Network said the attack took place on Thursday evening in the village of Markaz Al-Ziyadia.

In a statement, the group said 16 people were confirmed dead, eight were injured, and six remained missing. A child was found burned to death inside a home, it added.

The network condemned the attack on unarmed civilians, describing it in its statement as a “full-fledged war crime” and part of a “systematic criminal behaviour” by the RSF.

The RSF has been accused of carrying out similar attacks on villages across the Kordofan region for months, leading to killings, looting and the forced displacement of residents as it battles the Sudanese army.

The doctors’ group called on the international community and human rights organizations to pressure RSF leaders to cease the violations and ensure protection for civilians.

The conflict in Sudan has recently been concentrated in the Kordofan region as the army, which has retaken control of Khartoum, Al Jazirah and Sennar states, attempts to advance towards the Darfur region to the west. Most of Darfur, except for El-Fasher, is controlled by the RSF.
