RSF bombards besieged El Fasher, activists decry ‘open morgue’

October 3, 2025 (EL FASHER) – The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) shelled the besieged North Darfur capital of El Fasher with heavy artillery on Friday, according to military and civilian sources.

There was no immediate information regarding casualties from the shelling.

Field sources told Sudan Tribune that the RSF artillery struck various parts of the city.

Meanwhile, the El Fasher Resistance Committees Coordination said in a Facebook statement that “El Fasher has become an open morgue today due to the continuous heavy artillery shelling since dawn.”

The committee added that Friday’s shelling was “violent and indiscriminate,” targeting homes, markets, hospitals, and shelters for the displaced.

“The shells fall like rain, making no distinction between a sleeping child or a mother praying to God to protect her children,” the statement continued. “The smell of death now fills the streets, and blood washes the sidewalks. Homes have been destroyed on top of their residents, markets turned to ash, and bodies are pulled from the rubble without names or faces—just numbers in a long registry of massacres.”

The statement added that the people of El Fasher need the siege to be lifted “and to have their lives, which were stolen from them for no reason, returned.”

The RSF has besieged El Fasher since May 2024 in an attempt to capture the city and complete its control over the entire Darfur region.

Formations from the army’s 6th Infantry Division and the Joint Force of armed movements continue to hold their positions within the city.
