October 11, 2025 (EL FASHER) – At least 60 civilians were killed and dozens injured when Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) shelled a displacement shelter in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, on Friday and Saturday, eyewitnesses and medical sources said.

The RSF has been shelling civilian targets in El Fasher for days using artillery and drones, destroying markets, water sources, and health facilities, residents said. The paramilitary group also periodically raids displacement sites, carrying out killings, arrests, and forced displacements.

A drone launched by the RSF bombed the Dar al-Arqam school on Saturday, “killing 37 civilians, some of whom were burned to death inside the classrooms,” Mohamed Khamis Douda, a spokesperson for the displaced at Zamzam camp, told Sudan Tribune.

Douda added that the same centre was hit by artillery fire on Friday evening. The shells targeted underground shelters where displaced people were taking cover, killing at least 30.

Witnesses said the attack involved drones and heavy artillery and destroyed large parts of the centre, which houses hundreds of displaced people, mostly women, children, and the elderly.

Survivors said a drone fired four missiles. Two missiles struck shelters directly on Friday evening, killing 30 people and destroying the structures completely. When some tried to flee to another part of the centre, the drone pursued them, firing two more missiles at dawn on Saturday and killing another 37 people, survivors added.

The total death toll from the two attacks reached at least 67, with more than 40 wounded. Due to the dangerous security situation, some bodies remain unburied.

The remaining residents of El Fasher face dire humanitarian conditions, with many forced to live in underground shelters or large metal containers to protect themselves from constant bombardment. The Dar al-Arqam centre houses over 150 displaced families who face severe shortages of food, water, and medical care amid the fighting.

The attack follows a separate incident on October 7, when RSF fighters killed several displaced people at the Abu Talib school shelter, according to reports. That ground attack came after the centre was hit by more than ten artillery shells and a drone strike, which killed over 15 people and wounded dozens.

Military sources claim the RSF is targeting shelters and civilian gathering places like mosques and hospitals to force the remaining residents to flee El Fasher.
