RSF drone attacks hit Khartoum airport for third day

October 23, 2025 (KHARTOUM) – Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) attacked Khartoum’s international airport with drones for the third consecutive day on Thursday, sources said, inflicting minor damage on the facility as it prepared to resume flights.

Army air defences engaged the drone, airport sources told Sudan Tribune. The attack follows similar strikes on Tuesday and Wednesday on the airport, which has been closed since the war began in April 2023 but was slated to reopen for domestic flights.

Despite an attack early on Wednesday, a civilian aircraft from the private Badr Airlines was able to land and take off from the airport later that day, marking a brief resumption of activity.

Separately on Thursday, army anti-aircraft systems intercepted RSF drones that attempted to attack the Wadi Seidna military area north of Omdurman, a key army base. It was not immediately clear if the attack caused any damage.

The Sudanese army’s spokesperson has not commented on the recent wave of drone attacks.

The attacks are part of a broader RSF drone campaign across the country. In the past two days, RSF drones have also targeted military sites and power stations in Damazin and Sennar, southeast of the capital. An attack on the city of El Rahad in North Kordofan state on Wednesday evening killed three civilians and injured at least seven others, according to local reports.
