Sudan PM in Geneva for treatment, dismissal rumours denied

November 17, 2025 (PORT SUDAN) – A reliable military source disclosed to Sudan Tribune on Monday that Prime Minister Kamil Idris is currently in Geneva receiving medical treatment, dismissing reports that the country’s leadership plans to remove him from office.

The Prime Minister’s office issued a separate statement on Monday confirming that Idris is in good health and had travelled abroad on an official mission. It added that the premier is closely monitoring the domestic and international situation “around the clock.”

“The country’s leadership is not currently considering or planning to dismiss Idris from his position,” the military source told Sudan Tribune.

The source added that while in Geneva for treatment, Idris has held meetings with officials from international organizations regarding the humanitarian situation in Sudan, specifically focusing on the Darfur region.

Earlier media reports suggested the military leadership was considering replacing Idris due to alleged poor performance. Critics have recently intensified attacks on the premier, accusing him of being detached from public concerns, while his unannounced departure fueled speculation regarding a potential resignation.

The statement from the Prime Minister’s office noted that Idris remains in constant contact with the country’s leadership, the Chairman of the Sovereignty Council, and government cabinet members.

The office announced that Idris is scheduled to return to Sudan by the end of the week.
