Sudanese army repels fresh RSF attack in West Kordofan

November 25, 2025 (BABANUSA) – The Sudanese army said on Tuesday it had repelled a major attack by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on its main base in West Kordofan state.

The RSF launched the dawn assault on the 22nd Infantry Division headquarters in Babanusa following the collapse of mediation efforts led by local tribal leaders.

The proposed deal, which the army rejected, would have required government troops to withdraw from Babanusa and the nearby oil-rich area of Heglig to North Kordofan or South Sudan.

“Our forces… managed to repel an attempted attack launched by the rebellious Daglo family militia… inflicting heavy losses in lives and equipment,” the army said in a statement.

The army said it seized combat vehicles and killed several RSF field commanders and “hundreds of mercenaries”.

The fighting occurred less than 24 hours after the RSF commander announced a unilateral three-month ceasefire in response to an initiative by the Quad diplomatic group.

The RSF controls most of West Kordofan, including the state capital El Fula and the towns of Al-Muglad and En Nahud. The army retains control of Babanusa and oil fields in Heglig near the South Sudan border.
