Lt Gen al-Atta rejects talks with the RSF on June 16, 2024

November 26, 2025 (EL OBEID) – Lieutenant General Yasser al-Atta, assistant commander-in-chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), reiterated strict conditions for ending the war in Sudan, primarily demanding the surrender and withdrawal of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). He also repeated his accusations that the UAE is supporting those he terms “mercenaries” in the country.

In a fervent speech delivered in El Obeid, North Kordofan State, Al-Atta stressed that the military establishment is unified behind the decision to decisively end the conflict and rejects any negotiation not based on the RSF’s withdrawal.

Key Demands for Peace

Al-Atta detailed the Sudanese Army’s preconditions for peace, asserting they represent the definitive “state’s decision.” These requirements center on the comprehensive dissolution of the RSF as a fighting force and the restoration of state control. The SAF demands the immediate withdrawal of RSF forces from all major urban centers and their confinement to specified encampments located exclusively within South and East Darfur states. Furthermore, all weapons and combat equipment currently in the possession of the RSF must be fully surrendered to the Sudanese Armed Forces. Lastly, full national sovereignty must be immediately re-established over all key infrastructure, including international border crossings and airports across the country.

The Lieutenant General highlighted that the SAF currently holds its main positions in El Obeid, North Kordofan, and a key base in Babanusa, West Kordofan, amidst fierce fighting for control of the western states, contrasting this with the RSF’s control over the five Darfur states and parts of Kordofan. He also added that remaining RSF personnel face review by a joint field and legal committee. Individuals involved in criminal activities will be prosecuted, while others will be channeled into mandatory integration or demobilisation programs.

Renewed Attack on UAE

Al-Atta launched a sharp attack on the UAE, stating it is behind fueling the conflict and financing mercenaries.

He referred to the ruler of Abu Dhabi as the “Devil of the Arabs,” accusing him of bringing in mercenaries from Colombia, Ukraine, Libya, Chad, Central African Republic, South Sudan, Niger, and Somalia to fight alongside the RSF.

“The battle is the battle of the Emirates and the masters of the Emirates, each serving their own interests,” Al-Atta asserted, stressing that “the Janjaweed has no place in Sudan, neither currently nor in the future.” He vowed to pursue all those who betrayed the nation or supported the Janjaweed politically, through media, or as agents, and hold them accountable by law.

National Unity and Military Operations

The SAF official confirmed that the armed forces, in cooperation with joint forces, security, police, and popular resistance, “has prepared the readiness” for imminent military operations to overrun RSF-controlled areas and reach the international borders.

Al-Atta noted that the war has resulted in positive outcomes, including the “cohesion and solidarity of the Sudanese nation,” affirming that the strongest victory lies in the united “fabric of the Sudanese nation” which “neither shakes nor is violated.”
