RSF says it seized Sudan army division HQ after breaching truce

December 1, 2025 (BABANUSA)  – The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) said on Monday they had seized the Sudanese army’s 22nd Infantry Division headquarters in Babanusa, West Kordofan, after three days of heavy fighting, ignoring a self-declared three-month humanitarian truce.

RSF field commanders and its political affiliate, the Sudan Founding Alliance (TASIS), issued statements saying they had “liberated” the base and the adjoining 89th Brigade command.

TASIS claimed the assault inflicted heavy army losses and that its fighters had captured foreign-supplied equipment.

Social-media accounts close to the RSF posted footage of fighters inside the division compound and said Youssef Awadallah Aliyan, head of the RSF’s civil administration for West Kordofan, had arrived in the town.

The assault is the latest in a string of RSF attacks that began on November 1, when reinforcements arrived from Darfur, according to local residents.

It comes only a week after RSF commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo announced a truce to February 24, 2026, in response to a Quad mechanism initiative led by the United States, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates.

Babanusa, a rail junction that links western, eastern, northern and southern Sudan and houses one of the country’s largest dairy plants, has been largely deserted since an RSF offensive in January 2024 displaced most of its 80,000 residents.
