December 18, 2025 (KHARTOUM) – Sudan’s annual inflation rate fell to 74% in November, the Central Bureau of Statistics said on Thursday, continuing a gradual downward trend from a peak of 422% in July 2021.

The rate dropped from 77.4% in October, even as the local currency continues to lose value and the cost of essential goods remains high amid ongoing conflict.

Urban inflation decreased to 80.61% in November from 83.37% the previous month, while rural inflation fell to 71.16% from 74.76% in October, the bureau said in a statement.

The agency noted that data for North Darfur had to be estimated due to deteriorating security conditions, while figures for Central Darfur have been estimated since the start of the war.

While inflation slowed in 15 states, it rose in White Nile, South Kordofan, and West Kordofan.

The bureau measures inflation based on a basket of 663 goods. Food and beverages account for the largest portion of Sudanese household spending at 52.89%, followed by housing and energy at 14.17%, and transport at 8.34%.

Despite lower inflation figures, many Sudanese continue to struggle with high prices and low incomes as the war persists and the Sudanese pound depreciates.
