Drone strike kills two in Sudan’s Dilling, medical group says
January 24, 2026 (DILLING) – The Sudan Doctors Network revealed on Saturday that a man and a woman were killed and others were injured in a drone strike targeting the city of Dilling in South Kordofan state.
Dilling is periodically subjected to artillery and drone shelling, which has resulted in the deaths of hundreds of civilians and the destruction of health facilities. This has occurred alongside widespread displacement despite the lack of security on escape routes.
In a statement, the network said that a suicide drone belonging to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) targeted the Fath al-Rahman neighbourhood in Dilling, resulting in the fatalities.
The network characterized the attack as a deliberate assault on residential neighbourhoods and civilian facilities, representing a clear disregard for international calls to stop targeting civilians.
The network held the RSF and the SPLM-N, led by Abdel Aziz al-Hilu, responsible for the crime. It condemned the continued violations against unarmed civilians and the use of suicide drones in populated areas, calling it a flagrant breach of international humanitarian law and civilian protection principles.
The RSF and SPLM-N have imposed a siege on Dilling and Kadugli, preventing food and medical supplies from reaching civilians. This has led to famine in Kadugli, while Dilling faces famine-like conditions.
The network called on the international community to pressure the RSF and SPLM-N to lift the siege on Dilling, stop targeting civilians immediately, ensure unhindered humanitarian aid access, and hold those responsible for violations accountable.
In a related development, the RSF announced it had shot down a Turkish-made Bayraktar drone in the al-Farshaya area of South Kordofan state.
The RSF and SPLM-N are seeking to control Kadugli and Dilling, launching continuous air strikes alongside ground battles in the surrounding areas.
