January 31, 2026 (KHARTOUM) – Sudan Airways (Sudanair) announced on Saturday it would operate its first flight to Khartoum International Airport since the outbreak of war, offering tickets at reduced prices.

Sudanair resumed flights to the Egyptian capital, Cairo, and Jeddah in Saudi Arabia on Jan. 20 from Port Sudan International Airport after finishing maintenance on its only aircraft.

In a statement, Sudanair said it would operate the first flight from Port Sudan to Khartoum airport on Sunday, describing the move as a step reflecting a “return of spirit” and continued connection between the people of the nation.

The airline said the flight would be offered at promotional rates of 200,000 Sudanese pounds ($50), as part of a commitment to serving citizens and easing travel burdens.

Sudan Airways continues to face significant challenges, including the loss of its fleet and a ban on flights over European Union airspace. The carrier also faces administrative and financial challenges, as well as technical constraints that have affected its competitiveness and reputation.

The Sudan Airports Company decided in October to reopen Khartoum International Airport and resume domestic flights after rehabilitation. The airport had suffered extensive damage while under the control of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

However, prior to the scheduled reopening, the airport was hit by a drone attack carried out by the RSF, which damaged several renovated facilities.

Regional and international airlines suspended operations in Sudanese airspace after war broke out in mid-April 2023, causing Khartoum airport to go out of service. Some carriers have since resumed operations via Port Sudan after the Sudan Airports Company was forced to relocate air navigation services there.
