Sudan condemns Iranian attack on Oman as regional tensions soar
March 1, 2026 (KHARTOUM) – Sudan on Sunday condemned an Iranian attack on the Sultanate of Oman, declaring its opposition to any actions that undermine the stability of neighbouring nations in the region.
Tehran launched an assault on the commercial port of Duqm in Oman, despite Muscat’s long-standing role as a mediator between Iran and the United States. This marks a significant escalation following a series of Iranian strikes against Gulf states.
The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that the government of Sudan strongly condemns the “blatant and illegal” Iranian aggression against the sisterly Sultanate of Oman.
The statement affirmed Sudan’s solidarity with Omani sovereignty and its right to defend its security and people. It further emphasized that Khartoum rejects any acts affecting the security and stability of regional allies.
On Saturday, Sudan condemned Iranian attacks on Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Jordan. However, it notably omitted the United Arab Emirates, which Khartoum accuses of supplying the Rapid Support Forces with weapons and classifies as a hostile state.
Since Saturday, Tehran has carried out a large-scale offensive using ballistic missiles and drones against U.S. bases and civilian infrastructure, including airports, hotels, and ports across the Gulf. Local defences reportedly intercepted most of the strikes.
The Iranian strikes followed raids by Israel and the United States on targets within Iranian territory. These targets included the residence of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who was reported killed along with several members of his family.
The attacks on Gulf states and the ongoing exchange of fire between Israel and Iran represent the highest levels of tension the region has seen. Analysts have warned of a conflict that could last for weeks and potentially target oil facilities in Arab countries.
