Sudan warns Ethiopia against ‘hostile’ drone attacks from its territory

March 2, 2026 (KHARTOUM) – Sudan warned Ethiopia on Monday against continued “hostile behaviour,” accusing its neighbour of allowing its territory to be used to launch drone attacks and stating that Khartoum reserves the right to respond to these violations.

The announcement marks the first official accusation from Khartoum that Addis Ababa is directly involved in the war that has raged for nearly three years. Media reports last month alleged that Ethiopia was hosting a training camp for thousands of Rapid Support Forces (RSF) fighters near the Sudanese border in Blue Nile state, providing logistical support and weapons funded by the United Arab Emirates.

The Sudanese foreign ministry said in a statement that the government monitored the entry of drones from Ethiopian territory throughout February and early March, targeting sites inside Sudan.

The ministry expressed its rejection and condemnation of the behaviour, calling it a flagrant violation of sovereignty and an explicit aggression against the Sudanese state.

The government warned Ethiopian authorities of the consequences of these actions, noting it maintains the right to defend the country’s territorial integrity through various means to counter such attacks.

A coalition comprising the RSF and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North, led by Abdel Aziz al-Hilu, launched ground attacks on several positions in Blue Nile in late January and February, which the army said it repelled.

Following the failure of ground assaults to seize positions, the RSF shifted to intensive drone strikes on districts and villages in the Blue Nile bordering Ethiopia.
