Sudanese army drone strike kills senior RSF commander in West Darfur

MARCH 13 2026 (EL GENEINA) – A Sudanese army drone strike killed a senior Rapid Support Forces (RSF) commander and 12 others on Friday, targeting a military convoy in the town of Forbaranga in West Darfur, a military source told Sudan Tribune.

The strike is part of an intensified aerial campaign by the Sudanese army over recent weeks against positions in the Darfur region, where the RSF maintains control over vast areas.

Military sources said the drone attacked a mobile unit of nine combat vehicles near Forbaranga. The attack killed 13 personnel, including an RSF officer with the rank of major general and several other officers, while 23 others were wounded.

The sources added that the strike destroyed all the combat vehicles, which were carrying ammunition and supplies.

The targeted force was reportedly travelling toward the Kulbus and Jebel Moon areas of West Darfur to join other military units. Those units were preparing for an assault on the border town of Tine in North Darfur as part of recent regional mobilizations.

Among those killed was Major General Abdel Rahim Bahr Jali, a prominent RSF field commander in West Darfur. Jali was a key figure in recruitment and mobilisation efforts in the region and oversaw the security of logistical supply lines from neighbouring African countries.

He was also instrumental in mobilizing fighters to reinforce RSF positions across several fronts, particularly in Darfur and South Kordofan, making him a highly influential figure within the group’s regional leadership.

The army’s aerial operations aim to destroy RSF military hardware, including air defence systems and drones, while also targeting fuel markets and cross-border supply chains to undermine the paramilitary group’s offensive capabilities.
