Western coalition condemns East Darfur hospital strike

March 28, 2026 (LONDON) – A coalition of international powers on Friday expressed profound outrage over drone strikes on the El Daein Teaching Hospital in East Darfur state, which killed dozens of civilians during Eid celebrations last week.

The Coalition for Atrocity Prevention and Justice in Sudan, comprising the United Kingdom, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, and Norway, confirmed that at least 64 people were killed in the March 20 attack, including 13 children.

According to reports from the World Health Organization and the OHCHR, the strike also killed one doctor and injured eight health workers among at least 89 total casualties.

The facility’s emergency, maternity, and paediatric units were forced to shut down, further restricting access to medical care in the region.

The coalition described the strike as part of a clear pattern of attacks by warring parties against protected persons and objects.

Data shows more than 2,000 people have been killed in attacks on health centres since the conflict began, with over 500 civilians killed by drones in the first ten weeks of 2026 alone.

The joint statement warned that these actions raise serious concerns regarding International Humanitarian Law and may amount to war crimes. It called for immediate accountability and adherence to UN Security Council Resolution 2736.

The group also urged those enabling the conflict through the transfer of arms and drones to recognize the consequences of their actions on Sudanese civilians. The coalition concluded by calling for an immediate end to the conflict through good-faith dialogue.
