Drone strike on Sudan’s Al-Jabalain hospital kills 12
April 2 2026 (AL-JABALAIN) – Medical sources said Thursday that Al-Jabalain Hospital in White Nile State, southern Sudan, was hit by a drone strike that killed 12 people, including two doctors.
The attack on Al-Jabalain Hospital comes one day after a similar strike on a medicine warehouse in Kosti, White Nile, which injured three people, including a pharmacist.
Sources told Sudan Tribune that a drone belonging to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) carried out the attack on the hospital, which is located near the border with South Sudan.
The sources noted that the strike claimed the lives of 12 individuals, including patients and two physicians.
The Al-Jazeera Observatory for Human Rights stated that nine people were killed in the attack, including the medical facility’s director, Dr Hamid Suliman, and the administrative director, Elham Hamid.
In early March, the World Health Organization reported documenting 213 attacks on healthcare facilities since the war began, resulting in 2,036 deaths. The Preliminary Committee of the Sudan Doctors Union has recorded the deaths of 600 medical staff and the destruction of 2,000 hospitals and health centers.
Insecurity Insight has counted approximately 721 incidents of violence or obstruction of access to healthcare facilities, with more than two-thirds attributed to the RSF.
The observatory condemned the targeting of health facilities and medical staff, calling on the warring parties to adhere to international humanitarian law, which classifies the targeting of health facilities as a war crime.
It noted that White Nile State is experiencing frequent drone attacks. A medical supply headquarters and a fuel station were targeted on Wednesday, while another attack hit a fuel station in Kosti.
In this context, White Nile Governor Qamar al-Din Mohamed Fadl al-Mawla conducted a field visit to the sites hit by attacks in Kosti, Rabak, and Al-Jabalain.
The governor said that the attacks carried out by the RSF would not deter the resolve of citizens or the armed forces from moving forward to clear the country of the “rebel militia.”
He explained that the targeting of civilian objects is part of a series of attacks through which the RSF seeks to destroy service facilities, fuel depots, and infrastructure in White Nile.
The use of drones by conflict parties against military movements has escalated, alongside an increasing trend of hitting civilian targets, including healthcare facilities, power stations, and aid trucks.
