Sudanese rights group says army and RSF detained three brothers

April 20, 2026 (KHARTOUM) – The Emergency Lawyers group revealed on Monday the detention and enforced disappearance of three brothers by both the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The rights group stated that these practices represent an escalating pattern of grave violations against civilians. It highlighted a lack of accountability and the collapse of legal safeguards during the ongoing conflict.

According to the statement, the three brothers, Abdel Rahman, Mohammed, and Badri Ibrahim Badri, were subjected to arbitrary detention in different parts of the country.

Abdel Rahman Ibrahim was arrested by army intelligence on May 20 at his home in Omdurman. He was forcibly disappeared in a religious site before being moved to Omdurman and Soba prisons on charges of collaborating with the RSF. He was released after 11 months in poor physical and mental health.

The RSF detained the youngest brother, Mohammed Badri, on August 20, 2025, in Bara, North Kordofan. He was subsequently transferred to Nyala in South Darfur, where he is believed to be held in Kober prison, with no official information on his status.

The eldest brother, Badri Ibrahim, was also seized by the RSF on August 25 from North Kordofan. He was moved to the Dagris detention centre in Nyala, where he remains forcibly disappeared under conditions lacking transparency or dignity.

The group noted that the brothers’ family has been subjected to financial extortion and fraud by individuals promising false information regarding their fate.

Emergency Lawyers called for the immediate and unconditional release of all arbitrary detainees and the closure of illegal detention centres. They urged both warring parties to stop using detention as a tool of war.
