Al-Burhan, Oman’s Sultan, discuss regional stability and peace in Sudan
April 21 2026 (MUSCAT) – Sudan’s Sovereign Council President Abdel Fattah al-Burhan held official talks with Sultan Haitham bin Tarik of Oman on Tuesday, focusing on regional developments and efforts to end the war in the East African nation.
The meeting in Muscat followed al-Burhan’s visit to Saudi Arabia, where he met with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to discuss regional stability, Red Sea security, and strengthening ties between Khartoum and Riyadh.
The Sovereign Council stated that the discussions in Muscat reviewed the “deep-rooted brotherly relations” between the two nations. Both leaders explored ways to develop cooperation across various sectors to serve mutual interests.
The talks also addressed the latest regional developments amid rising tensions. Both sides emphasized the importance of bolstering security and stability at both the regional and international levels.
According to the Oman News Agency, al-Burhan expressed his appreciation for the continuous efforts exerted by the Sultanate of Oman to support endeavours to end the conflict in Sudan through dialogue and peaceful means, strengthen national unity, and prioritize the national interest.
Al-Burhan’s tour of the Gulf comes shortly after the United States announced a halt to military strikes conducted with Israel against Iran. This pause aims to provide space for a Pakistani-led mediation effort to resolve the conflict.
The region has faced significant instability following large-scale Iranian attacks on Gulf states, including Saudi Arabia and Oman. These strikes targeted energy facilities as well as civilian and military sites.
During the talks, al-Burhan reaffirmed Sudan’s support for the sovereignty and stability of Oman and other Gulf states. He issued a formal condemnation of the Iranian attacks against member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
Sultan Haitham welcomed al-Burhan’s visit, praising the historic ties between the two peoples. He expressed Oman’s readiness to open new avenues for bilateral cooperation and thanked Sudan for its supportive stance toward Gulf security.
The two parties agreed to maintain ongoing consultation and coordination across all fields.
Al-Burhan was accompanied by Foreign Minister Mohieddin Salem and General Intelligence Service Director Ahmed Ibrahim Mufadal.
