Seven killed in drone strikes on Sudan’s El Obeid
April 25, 2026 (EL OBEID) – At least seven civilians were killed and others injured on Saturday following drone strikes targeting various locations in El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan state.
El Obeid has been transformed by the army into an advanced hub for military operations in Darfur and Kordofan. It frequently faces drone attacks by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) aimed at obstructing military advances toward southern and western Kordofan.
The Sudan Doctors Network said in a statement that the city was subjected to a deliberate attack by “suicide drones” targeting residential neighbourhoods. The group confirmed seven fatalities and 22 injuries of varying severity among citizens.
The network condemned the targeting of densely populated civilian areas, asserting that the strikes were intended to cause maximum casualties rather than hitting military targets. It described the action as a grave violation of international humanitarian laws and norms.
The statement noted that using drones against residential quarters reflects a clear disregard for civilian lives, particularly as the country faces deteriorating humanitarian and health conditions.
The group called on the international community and humanitarian organizations to pressure RSF leadership to cease these repeated attacks and protect non-combatants.
The network further urged relevant authorities to provide medical supplies and personnel to health facilities in El Obeid to manage the increasing number of casualties and prevent a further collapse of the local healthcare system.
