French parliamentary delegation visits Sudan displacement camps to document atrocities

May 9, 2026 (KHARTOUM) – A French parliamentary delegation arrived in Sudan on Saturday, visiting a displacement camp in Port Sudan and meeting with conflict victims in Khartoum to document human rights violations.

This is the first European parliamentary delegation to visit the country since the conflict erupted on April 15, 2023. Accompanied by Darfur Region Governor Minni Arko Minawi, the group toured the Industrial School Camp in Port Sudan.

French lawmaker Christophe Marion told displaced persons during the tour that he intends to bring their voices to the French parliament and government.

Governor Minawi stated that the visit allowed the delegation to witness firsthand the suffering caused by RSF crimes. He called for the prosecution of those involved, asserting that peace agreements cannot be signed without accountability for killings and displacement.

In Khartoum, the delegation heard testimonies from survivors of violence in El Geneina, El Fasher, Wad Al-Noura, and the capital. Witnesses detailed accounts of extrajudicial killings and grave violations against women and children.

The survivors urged the international community to take urgent action to provide justice and hold those responsible for crimes against humanity accountable.

In November, Marion had previously denounced international silence regarding what he described as a “genocide by bullets” in Sudan, criticizing the global indifference toward the humanitarian catastrophe.
