Sudan calls for international action after RSF massacre kills dozens in North Kordofan

May 30, Khartoum — Sudan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday strongly condemned what it described as a massacre carried out by the Rapid Support Forces in the Um Saadoun and Al-Murra areas of North Kordofan state, calling on the international community, the United Nations, the Security Council, and the African Union to take decisive action to hold the perpetrators accountable.

The ministry said the attack killed dozens of unarmed civilians and wounded others, describing it as a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and international human rights law. Scattered reports put the death toll at no fewer than 60 civilians killed across several villages in Bara locality.

“We strongly condemn the horrific massacre committed by the terrorist RSF militia in the Um Saadoun and Al-Murra areas of North Kordofan state on the second day of Eid al-Adha,” the ministry said in a statement, urging the international community to issue a clear and unambiguous condemnation, work urgently to hold those responsible — and their supporters — accountable, and take the necessary measures to protect civilians and end impunity.

The ministry said Sudan’s government holds the RSF and its regional and international backers fully responsible for the crime and its humanitarian consequences, and stated that continued military, financial, and logistical support to the militia directly enables it to commit further crimes against the Sudanese people.

It renewed its call for the RSF to be designated a terrorist organisation, citing its record of mass killings, targeting of civilians, destruction of property, and the commission of war crimes and crimes against humanity.

The National Umma Party also condemned the attack, describing it as part of a series of repeated assaults in Bara and West Bara localities that have included attacks on civilians, looting, road blockades, and the seizure of vehicles. The party held the RSF leadership fully responsible and called on all warring parties to withdraw military elements from civilian areas, secure roads and movement corridors, and strictly adhere to their obligations under international humanitarian law.
