Drone strike kills three civilians in North Kordofan, Emergency Lawyers say
June 8, 2026 (SUDRI) – Three civilians were killed, and another was injured on Monday in a drone strike targeting two civilian vehicles in the Adeid Raha area of Sudri locality in North Kordofan State, while the passengers were travelling to seek medical treatment, the Emergency Lawyers group said.
The incident comes amid an escalation of drone strikes in various parts of North Kordofan State in recent weeks, at a time of growing warnings from human rights groups over the impact of the conflict on civilians and the deterioration of the humanitarian situation and health services in the region.
“The attack occurred on Sunday evening at 7:30 p.m., targeting two civilian vehicles carrying civilians coming from the Umm Badr area and heading to the Northern State for treatment,” the group said in a statement on Monday.
The group explained that its preliminary investigation confirmed the civilian nature of the two targeted vehicles, noting that they were not used for military purposes.
The group criticized the targeting of civilian vehicles in this manner, adding that it “indicates the possibility of deliberately striking civilian targets despite their clear non-military nature,” though no independent body has provided confirmation of this conclusion.
The statement emphasized that the attack is part of a series of drone strikes that have recently hit villages, markets, and civilian vehicles in North Kordofan. The group said it recorded the deaths of 33 civilians and the injury of dozens of others due to these attacks over the past seven days.
The ongoing targeting of civilians while travelling, coupled with the deterioration of health services and damage to medical facilities, further complicates the humanitarian situation, the group pointed out, as the sick and wounded are forced to travel long distances to reach treatment centres amid growing security risks.
The repeated attacks on civilians, their means of transport, markets, and daily livelihood activities reflect the scale of the humanitarian challenges faced by the population in conflict zones, it added.
The Emergency Lawyers demanded an immediate halt to attacks on civilians and called for ensuring their protection in accordance with the rules of international humanitarian law. The group warned that the continuation of these violations in the absence of accountability would foster impunity and increase the suffering of civilians.
