RSF’s administration says Sudanese army drone destroyed key Darfur bridge

June 9, 2026 (EL GENEINA) – The civilian administration aligned with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in West Darfur state accused the Sudanese army on Tuesday of destroying the vital Ardamata bridge in a drone strike.

The attack on the bridge in the state capital, El Geneina, comes days after a similar strike disabled the Kiga bridge, a key route connecting Dilling and Kadugli in South Kordofan state.

The West Darfur civilian administration condemned the morning strike in a statement, calling it a direct threat to civilian lives and an intentional assault on critical regional infrastructure.

The Ardamata bridge functions as a primary transit artery for humanitarian aid, food, and medical supplies moving from the Adre border crossing with Chad into the Darfur and Kordofan regions.

United Nations agencies and international aid organizations depend on the route to deliver life-saving assistance to hundreds of thousands of displaced people and conflict-affected communities.

Local officials warned that destroying the bridge just before the rainy season would severely hinder aid distribution, potentially triggering a humanitarian catastrophe and halting operations across Darfur.

The administration called on UN agencies and international human rights bodies to condemn the destruction of civilian infrastructure and intervene to ensure the continuity of aid corridors.

Both the Sudanese army and the RSF have increasingly relied on drone warfare across Darfur and Kordofan, with escalating strikes severely damaging public infrastructure, including hospitals, schools, and water plants.
