Sudanese army drone strike kills civilian at North Kordofan water source, rights group says

June 11, 2026 (SODARI) – A Sudanese army drone strike killed at least one civilian and wounded another at a water source in North Kordofan state on Thursday, a local legal rights group said.

The strike targets a pattern of escalating aerial bombardments that have killed about 38 civilians in the region over the past 10 days, according to the Emergency Lawyers group.

The Sudanese military has intensified its drone operations over the last two weeks in the Sodari and Hamrat al-Sheikh localities. The areas border the Darfur region and are currently controlled by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The strike on Thursday morning hit herdsmen gathered at a water source in Al-Baqari village, located in the Wadi Al-Malik area of Sodari locality, Emergency Lawyers said in a statement.

The attack also killed a number of livestock in the community, which relies heavily on pastoral activities.

The rights group said the incident is part of a continuous campaign by the Sudanese army that has increasingly hit civilian infrastructure and livelihood sources in North Kordofan since the start of June.

The Sudanese military could not immediately be reached for comment on the strike.

Emergency Lawyers condemned the attack, saying the targeting of civilians, herders, and vital water facilities constitutes a grave violation of international humanitarian law, which requires warring parties to distinguish between civilian and military targets.
