Sudanese joint forces recapture Abu Qamra from RSF in North Darfur

June 27, 2026 (ABU QAMRA) – Sudanese joint military forces allied with the army recaptured the town of Abu Qamra in North Darfur state on Saturday, following fierce battles against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The town, located in the far northwest of the state, fell to the RSF late last year after intense clashes forced the joint forces to retreat to the Tine area. Activists previously accused the RSF of committing ethnically motivated abuses against members of the Zaghawa tribe during that period.

Mutawakil Wakil, spokesperson for the joint forces, said in a statement that the joint forces, alongside the Sudanese Armed Forces and popular resistance groups, completely liberated Abu Qamra after heavy fighting that lasted from the early morning until Saturday evening.

The operation inflicted heavy losses in lives and equipment on the RSF, with several combat vehicles destroyed or seized, while remaining RSF fighters fled the scene, Wakil added.

Separately, the North Darfur Emergency Rooms Coordination Council warned of deteriorating humanitarian conditions in Miski, a remote town near the Chadian border, following a wave of displacement from the Um Baru locality due to RSF attacks.

Over the past two weeks, the RSF burned approximately eight villages in Um Baru, forcing thousands of residents to flee toward Chad.

The emergency rooms stated that displaced families, particularly women and children, are living in the open without shelter, drinking water, or hygiene supplies, warning that the situation could worsen with the approaching rainy season.
