UN says drone strike destroyed 50 tonnes of humanitarian aid in Sudan

July 2, 2026 (UNITED NATIONS) – A drone strike in Sudan destroyed 50 metric tonnes of United Nations humanitarian aid intended for vulnerable communities in South Kordofan, the UN said on Thursday.

The UN refugee agency (UNHCR) said a contracted truck carrying the relief items was struck on Wednesday near Tendelti in White Nile state. The driver survived the attack unharmed, but the entire cargo was destroyed.

UN Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric told reporters in New York that the lost cargo included thousands of blankets, jerry cans, kitchen sets, sleeping mats, plastic sheets, and solar lamps destined for Abu Jubeyha.

Dujarric said the destruction of the supplies leaves thousands of conflict-affected people without urgent, life-saving assistance.

The incident comes amid a broader escalation of violence and worsening humanitarian conditions across Sudan. The UN reported that multiple drone strikes also hit Kosti in White Nile State on Wednesday, injuring at least three civilians.

Despite the volatile security situation, humanitarian agencies are continuing to deliver aid where possible. The World Health Organization recently sent a convoy carrying 8.5 metric tonnes of medical supplies, including cholera kits, to Dilling and Kadugli in South Kordofan State to combat disease outbreaks.

The UN renewed its appeal to all warring factions to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure, while urging international donors to immediately scale up funding for the humanitarian response.
