Drone strikes kill 15 civilians in Sudan’s North Kordofan, lawyers say

July 7, 2026 (HAMRAT AL-SHEIKH) – At least 15 civilians were killed on Monday and Tuesday in two separate drone strikes targeting civilian vehicles in Sudan’s North Kordofan state, the Emergency Lawyers group said.

The Kordofan region has seen an escalation in drone attacks between warring parties for months, resulting in significant civilian casualties and severe damage to infrastructure, including schools, hospitals and water sources.

A drone on Monday targeted a civilian vehicle carrying people to a wedding in the town of Al-Shaatoot, east of the Jabrat al-Sheikh locality, killing 13 civilians, including five women, the group said in a statement.

Another attack occurred on Tuesday morning when a drone struck a civilian vehicle transporting water near a water source in the Hamrat al-Sheikh area, killing two people.

The legal group said the incidents are part of an escalating pattern of drone strikes on civilians, with unmanned aircraft continuously flying over the northern parts of North Kordofan to track population movements.

The statement did not blame a specific party for the attacks.

Repeated attacks on civilian vehicles, water sources and residential areas represent a systematic pattern that terrorizes the population and deepens a suffocating siege, the group said. It added that the disruption of movement and lack of access to basic needs have worsened humanitarian conditions.

The group noted that the continuation of these attacks raises serious concerns about violations that could amount to war crimes, requiring investigation and accountability.

Condemning the attacks, the group held the executing party responsible and demanded an immediate, independent investigation. It called for an instant halt to attacks targeting civilians, the lifting of restrictions and full compliance with international humanitarian law.
