Sudan looks to China’s JA Solar to rebuild renewable energy sector
JULY 18, 2026 (BEIJING) – Sudan’s Ambassador to China, Omer Issa Ahmed, has visited JA Solar’s Beijing headquarters to explore partnerships in solar energy and secure backing for the African nation’s post-war development and reconstruction.
The ambassador and an accompanying delegation met with executives from the major Chinese renewable energy manufacturer to review advancements in photovoltaics, energy storage systems, and global project delivery. Discussions centred on the potential transfer of advanced Chinese technical expertise to expand and modernize Sudan’s energy infrastructure.
During the official meeting, JA Solar highlighted its expanding footprint and investments across international markets, particularly within Africa. Company leadership expressed a strong interest in contributing to Sudan’s reconstruction phase by investing directly in clean energy solutions and localized solar projects.
The general manager of JA Solar affirmed the company’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Khartoum, pointing to long-standing bilateral relations and the untapped potential of Sudan’s renewable energy resources.
Ambassador Ahmed underscored the deep historical ties between Sudan and China, praising Chinese enterprises for their historical role in driving Sudanese infrastructure and energy development through past strategic joint ventures.
The ambassador noted that Sudan is actively seeking broader partnerships with Chinese firms as it looks toward reconstruction. He stated that adopting modern solar technologies and diversifying the electrical grid remain top priorities for the country’s recovery plans.
Sudanese officials presented a detailed overview of the country’s current renewable energy goals and the specific investment windows available to foreign firms. Both sides agreed to evaluate cooperation frameworks to scale up Sudan’s clean electricity capacity.
