July 27, 2026 (TAWILA) – The General Coordination for Refugees and Displaced Persons in Darfur announced on Monday that seven cholera cases were officially confirmed across Darfur states between July 5 and July 25, warning of a worsening health crisis in displacement camps.

The humanitarian group highlighted severe shortages of food, clean drinking water, and essential medicines, cautioning that rainy-season conditions are heightening the risk of the spread of epidemic diseases, including cholera, malaria, and measles.

General Coordination spokesperson Adam Regal said in a statement that the confirmed cholera cases included two in South Darfur, three in Central Darfur, and two in North Darfur. He added that outbreaks are also affecting the Kordofan region, though communication breakdowns have hindered the collection of precise data.

Regal noted a widespread surge in malaria, diarrhoea, and respiratory infections across camps, along with seven confirmed measles cases in villages surrounding Golo in the Jebel Marra area amid a critical shortage of medical facilities.

Thousands of children across the region suffer from acute malnutrition, while pregnant women face rising health risks due to a total lack of maternal care, the statement warned.

Regal issued an urgent appeal to the United Nations, African Union, and international aid agencies to dispatch emergency food, medicine, and clean water, while calling for an independent international investigation into rights violations driving the humanitarian collapse. He also urged global pressure on Sudanese authorities to ensure unhindered aid delivery and protect displaced populations from violence.
