EgyptAir to resume Port Sudan flights with five weekly services
July 28, 2026 (KHARTOUM) – EgyptAir announced it will resume direct flights to Port Sudan on August 5, operating five weekly services to the Red Sea city.
The move marks a further step in the gradual recovery of Sudan’s civil aviation sector, following the recent return of regional carriers such as Qatar Airways and Oman’s SalamAir.
To mark the route’s relaunch, EgyptAir announced a 50 per cent discount on bookings for the inaugural August 5 flight, available through its website, call centres, and authorised travel agencies.
Travel agents told Sudan Tribune that Port Sudan has been re-integrated into EgyptAir’s international booking system. The resumption is expected to ease travel constraints for the large Sudanese community residing in Egypt.
The route will enhance passenger flow, support trade, and facilitate the movement of official and humanitarian delegations. Passengers connecting through Cairo International Airport will also gain access to EgyptAir’s broader global network.
International carriers suspended operations to Sudan following the outbreak of conflict in April 2023, which put Khartoum International Airport out of service. Flight operations were subsequently shifted to Port Sudan as a temporary aviation hub.
Port Sudan International Airport faced security disruptions in May after a series of drone attacks targeted its perimeter, fuel depots, and nearby port infrastructure, causing temporary flight suspensions.
EgyptAir had previously suspended its flights in May 2024 following the attack on Port Sudan airport.
Foreign airlines operating in Sudan continue to face financial hurdles, including severe local currency depreciation and foreign exchange shortages that complicate the repatriation of ticket sales revenue.
