July 28, 2026 (ANKARA) – Sudanese Foreign Minister Mohieddin Salem met with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan in Ankara on Tuesday to discuss Red Sea security, regional stability, and bilateral cooperation.

Salem, who arrived in the Turkish capital for an official two-day visit, signed a memorandum of understanding with Fidan to enhance diplomatic training and exchange expertise between their respective foreign ministry institutes.

The two ministers exchanged views on developments in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea, addressing security challenges posed by ongoing conflicts, arms proliferation, and armed groups, the Sudanese Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

During the talks, Salem briefed Fidan on the situation in Sudan and government efforts to restore stability, protect sovereignty, and rebuild state institutions following years of devastating conflict.

Salem expressed Sudan’s desire to see Turkish public and private sectors participate heavily in upcoming recovery and reconstruction efforts. Sudanese authorities estimate overall reconstruction costs at $1 trillion, including $300 billion for the capital, Khartoum.

Fidan reaffirmed Turkey’s support for Sudan’s unity and territorial integrity, promising continued humanitarian aid and diplomatic backing to achieve lasting peace in the country.
