Blue Nile civil society group issues urgent plea over crisis in Ed Damazin
July 28, 2026 (ED DAMAZIN) – The Blue Nile Civil Society Initiative issued an urgent appeal on Tuesday for international and regional intervention to rescue thousands of displaced persons facing critical humanitarian and health conditions across Ed Damazin and surrounding governorates.
Heavy seasonal rains have severely degraded living conditions in camps across the region, triggering outbreaks of disease alongside an acute shortage of shelter, clean water, and medical care for vulnerable women, children, and the elderly.
Ongoing armed conflict and sluggish aid delivery have turned daily life into an escalating tragedy, the initiative said in a statement sent to Sudan Tribune.
The group urged United Nations agencies and international aid organizations to declare an emergency response to immediately distribute food, medical supplies, and temporary shelter to affected families.
It also called on all warring parties to cease hostilities immediately and open safe corridors to allow unhindered humanitarian access across the Blue Nile region.
