Sudan condemns drone attack on ships at Egyptian port
July 30, 2026 (KHARTOUM) – The Sudanese government on Thursday condemned a drone attack targeting two ships at Egypt’s Mediterranean port of Damietta, describing the strike as a dangerous threat to regional security and stability.
The Egyptian Cabinet said preliminary investigations into a fire aboard two vessels at Damietta Port, located near the Suez Canal, confirmed it was caused by a drone strike on Wednesday.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sudan denounced the strike as a hostile act and a violation of international law.
The ministry expressed Sudan’s full solidarity with Egypt, emphasizing that any threat to Egyptian national security directly impacts regional stability.
The statement urged all parties to respect national sovereignty, abstain from targeting civilian infrastructure, and avoid endangering international maritime navigation.
Khartoum reiterated its support for any legitimate measures Cairo takes to defend its national security, vital facilities, and sovereignty under international law and the UN Charter.
Egyptian authorities have launched a formal investigation into the attack, though no group has claimed responsibility.
