Democratic Bloc proposes roadmap for inter-Sudanese talks

August 7, 2026 (KHARTOUM) – Sudan’s Democratic Bloc coalition has presented a political roadmap centred on intra-Sudanese dialogue alongside a proposed U.S.-mediated ceasefire to end the country’s civil war, its spokesperson said on Friday.

The vision aims to address the root causes of the conflict and establish a framework for sustainable peace, Democratic Bloc spokesperson Nidal Hisham told Sudan Tribune.

Hisham said the ceasefire proposal would complement the political track to secure a permanent end to fighting, allow humanitarian relief, and enable reconstruction.

The coalition reached understandings with Sovereign Council head Abdel Fattah al-Burhan to foster a favourable domestic environment for inclusive dialogue, Hisham added, while excluding groups involved in abuses against civilians. She noted international actors should serve only as facilitators.

The initiative comes as opposing political coalitions, Somoud and Tasis, boycotted consultations organized by an international Quintet Mechanism, demanding changes to participant selection criteria and meeting structures.

Fighting between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces has raged since April 2023, causing a severe humanitarian crisis, destroying infrastructure, and displacing millions.
