August 9, 2026 (KHARTOUM) – Prime Minister Kamel Idris received a briefing on Sunday regarding state financial reforms and plans to revive key productive sectors, including state air and sea carriers, Minister of State for Finance Mohamed Nour Abdeldaim said.

Speaking after a meeting in Khartoum, Abdeldaim said the government is pushing ahead with structural public finance reforms, including implementing an electronic bidding platform, automating public sector payrolls, and a unified treasury system to boost transparency and governance.

The measures aim to stabilize state finances as Sudan works to rebuild state institutions and manage severe economic fallout from ongoing war.

Abdeldaim noted that the ministry is coordinating with international institutions, pointing to a roadmap agreed upon with the International Monetary Fund toward debt relief under the Heavily Indebted Poor Countries initiative.

He added that Sudan is re-engaging with the World Bank to secure support for humanitarian assistance, a national agricultural sector strategy, and broader reconstruction plans, while pursuing additional debt relief avenues beyond HIPC.

The financial overhaul also prioritizes reviving key economic drivers, notably the livestock sector alongside national transport assets such as Sudan Airways.
