Sudan inflation slows to 41.61% in July, agency says
August 18, 2026 (KHARTOUM) – Sudan’s annual inflation rate slowed to 41.61% in July from 51.28% in June, the country’s Central Bureau of Statistics said on Tuesday.
Consumer prices rose by 1.47% month-on-month, pushing the general Consumer Price Index to 718,930.72 points in July compared with 708,510.80 points in June, the agency said in a statement.
Urban areas recorded an annual inflation rate of 45.24% in July, while rural regions recorded 39.85%.
The statistics bureau measures inflation using a basket of 663 goods and services, divided into 12 main categories. Food and beverages carry the largest weight, accounting for 52.89% of household expenditure.
Housing, water, electricity, gas, and fuel represent 14.17% of total household spending, followed by transport at 8.34%.
Despite the slowdown in the annual rate, prices continue to climb each month, deepening hardship for millions of Sudanese who have lost livelihoods and income during the ongoing conflict.
The war has severely disrupted supply chains, destroyed commercial and agricultural infrastructure, and drastically eroded household purchasing power across the country.
