Sudan army deploys allied reinforcements to Blue Nile after rebel gains

September 1, 2026 (ED DAMAZIN) — The Sudanese army said on Tuesday that advance units from the Joint Force of allied armed movements had arrived in Ed Damazin to join the fight against an alliance between the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N).

Fighting has intensified since last February across Blue Nile state in Sudan’s far southeast, where the rebel coalition seized control of Kurmuk and Geissan, two towns bordering Ethiopia.

Last week, the RSF-SPLM-N alliance claimed control over the strategic army bases of Bakori and Sorkam in Geissan and Kurmuk localities.

In a press statement on Tuesday, the Sudanese army said it had deployed military reinforcements to the Blue Nile region. It added that forces from the allied Joint Force arrived in Ed Damazin to “cleanse” the area of rebel elements.

Major General Ismail al-Tayeb, commander of the 4th Infantry Division, said government troops are on high alert to press ahead with their operations, noting that rebel forces are sustaining “successive and painful blows on various fronts.”

The commander added that the end of the rebellion is imminent and that the armed forces remain resolute in securing and clearing the entirety of Blue Nile state.

The deployment marks the second wave of reinforcements in a week, following recent advances by RSF and SPLM-N forces across multiple fronts in the region.
