US envoy meets Sudanese, Egyptian ministers in push for permanent peace

September 21, 2026 (NEW YORK) – Senior U.S. presidential adviser Massad Boulos held talks in New York with the foreign ministers of Sudan and Egypt to secure a durable peace deal, as international diplomats renewed efforts to halt the devastating war.

Boulos said on social media platform X that he held a “productive conversation with Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr Badr Abdelatty and Mr Mohi El Din Salem, the SAF-appointed Foreign Minister, about the need to urgently agree on a path to durable peace in Sudan.”

“The Sudanese people are in dire need of a humanitarian truce that can lead towards an inclusive civilian dialogue and a peaceful, unified Sudan,” Boulos said.

The United States leads a diplomatic quartet alongside Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates seeking a three-month ceasefire to facilitate substantive political talks and a formal peace agreement.

Egypt’s foreign ministry said on Sunday that the three officials met to explore ways to de-escalate fighting and create conditions for a sustainable political settlement.

Abdelatty underscored the need to safeguard Sudan’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, and state institutions while stepping up coordinated regional and international mediation, the ministry added.

Abdelatty and Boulos also held separate bilateral discussions focused on developments in Sudan.
