October 2, 2026 (AL-MAZROUB) – The Sudanese army captured the strategic town of Al-Mazroub in North Kordofan on Friday, pressing an offensive to dislodge the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) from one of their final strongholds in the state.

The military said its forces took the area following fierce clashes, marking another step in a months-long campaign alongside allied armed groups, including the Joint Force, to sever RSF supply corridors linking Darfur to the central Kordofan region.

An army spokesperson said troops inflicted heavy personnel and vehicle losses on RSF fighters during the assault.

The spokesperson urged displaced residents to return, asserting that government forces would secure the area and protect civilian property.

Al-Mazroub, the ancestral base of the Majanin tribe, holds operational value because of its location along desert tracks the RSF uses to move reinforcements and logistics between North Kordofan and Darfur.

The town drew national attention in October 2025 when a drone strike hit a gathering of local tribal leaders, killing the paramount chief of the Majanin, Prince Suleiman Jaber Jumaa Sahl, along with 16 others. Both warring factions accused each other of carrying out the strike, which occurred shortly after the leader had publicly urged the RSF to pull its fighters out of the town.
