Sudan gold export revenues reach record $2.3 billion in 2026
October 6, 2026 (KHARTOUM) – Sudan posted record gold production, revenues and export receipts in the first nine months of 2026, marking its strongest performance on record, the state-run mining regulator said on Tuesday.
The Sudanese Mineral Resources Company (SMRC), which regulates traditional and industrial mining under the Ministry of Minerals, announced the milestone following an executive board review in Khartoum.
Gold export earnings reached $2.292 billion between January and September, while domestic fiscal revenue rose to 1.886 trillion Sudanese pounds, exceeding targeted revenue projections by 31%, the company said in a statement.
Total gold production reached 105% of the annual target set for 2026.
SMRC Managing Director Mohamed Taher Omer commended mining staff and commercial partners, calling for ongoing digital reforms and stronger safety oversight to support the country’s economy.
Sudan has sought to channel more gold trade through official mechanisms to curb widespread smuggling. In August, Minerals Minister Nour al-Daem Taha said official gold exports during the first half of 2026 had already matched total official exports for all of 2025.
Sudan produced an estimated 70 metric tons of gold last year, but the central bank recorded just 14 metric tons in formal exports, underscoring a persistent gap long driven by illicit border trade.
