Sudanese army airstrikes in Nyala destroy RSF command, kill 30 civilians
October 16, 2026 (NYALA) – The Sudanese army said on Friday it destroyed the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) command and control centres in Nyala, the capital of South Darfur state, in a series of airstrikes.
Meanwhile, the RSF-affiliated Tasees (Founding) coalition reported that 30 civilians were killed in the bombing.
The Tasis authority operates out of Nyala, where it has its administrative headquarters.
The RSF and the Tasis coalition condemned the bombing of the city’s livestock market.
They accused the Sudanese army and Egypt of orchestrating the attack, alleging that a drone was launched from the Jebel Uweinat base inside Egyptian territory.
According to joint statements from the RSF and Tasies, the victims included 17 women and five children.
Earlier on Friday, local sources told Sudan Tribune that the Sudanese army carried out an airstrike using a long-range drone against RSF positions in the city.
Residents reported hearing multiple explosions across Nyala following the strikes.
The Emergency Lawyers group confirmed the strike hit the livestock market, condemning it as a violation of international conventions.
The Tasis coalition said the market was crowded with civilians at the time of the attack.
The group described the scene as an “arena of destruction and blood” and reported the complete destruction of commercial shops.
Targeting populated areas and popular markets constitutes a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and a war crime, the coalition stated.
The statement also highlighted a recent pattern of similar attacks on markets in Abu Zaeima, Jebel Hilla, Broush, Abu Adam, Al-Nayem, and Umm Zalita.
The coalition held the army and its backers fully responsible for what it termed a “massacre.”
It called on the U.N. Security Council and human rights organizations to urgently intervene, protect civilians, and launch an independent investigation.
