November 2, 2026 (KHARTOUM) – The Central Bank of Sudan held extensive discussions on Monday with competent authorities and representatives of gold export companies.

A press release issued by the bank stated that Governor Amna Mirghani Hassan El-Tom chaired a broad meeting with the Minister of Minerals, the Gold Export Window, and the Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organization.

Representatives from private gold export companies and relevant security and regulatory agencies also attended to discuss sector challenges and address imbalances in export proceeds.

The meeting discussed major problems facing exporters and ways to resolve them, as well as improving the efficiency of sector regulations.

These measures aim to strike a balance between state interests and those of producers and exporters, helping to increase export revenues and maximize foreign exchange resources.

Gold pricing topped the meeting’s agenda, with discussions focusing on the need to develop a flexible and fair pricing mechanism based on global rates.

Attendees also reviewed transfer limits and restrictions on export proceeds to ease procedures and improve the flow of foreign currency through official channels.

Participants discussed the importance of diversifying Sudanese gold export markets and opening new destinations to reduce the risks of relying on limited markets.

On policies and legislation, the meeting stressed the need to review regulatory frameworks and develop a balanced incentive package.

The Central Bank governor emphasized the need to reach solutions that balance public interests with those of exporters to create a stable and stimulating investment environment.

She also highlighted the necessity of supporting and empowering youth working in gold exports, praising the Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organization for facilitating export procedures.

Minister of Minerals Nour El-Daim Taha affirmed his support for the Central Bank’s policies and efforts to regulate the gold export sector.

Meanwhile, the Secretary-General of the Gold Exporters Division, Moatasem Mohamed Saleh, criticized their exclusion from the meeting.

Saleh told Sudan Tribune that the division learned about the meeting’s outcomes through the media, despite repeatedly offering to advise official bodies based on their successful past experiences.

Gold is a crucial source of foreign exchange for the Sudanese economy amid declining other exports and mounting pressure on the country’s foreign currency reserves.

The sector continues to face challenges related to smuggling, multiple purchasing channels, and the competitiveness of official prices compared to foreign markets.
