Sudan’s interim constitution comes into force 9 July

KHARTOUM, JUne 30, 2005 (Sudan Tribune) — Sudan’s transitional constitution agreed after protracted negotiations between the government, the southern rebels and the political parties will now come into force on 9 July, the day a new government of national unity is expected to be sworn in.

Sudanese President Umar al-Bashir made the announcement in a speech at the Green Square, in Khartoum, to mark the 16th anniversary of the coup that brought him to power, the Sudanese radio said.

“Nine July, God willing, will see the signing of the constitution that will govern the transitional period, as well as the oath of allegiance to the presidency of the republic,” Al-Bashir said.
