Aldo Ajo Deng joins Sudanese ruling party

KHARTOUM, July 12, 2005 (SUNA) — Prominent southern politician and former deputy prime minister Aldo Ajo Deng has announced joining the National Congress Party for boosting the efforts of peace and unity in the country.

Speaking at the regular press forum of SUNA Tuesday, Deng said his joining the National Congress stems from his belief in what can be realized by the peace agreement in boosting confidence among the citizens of the one homeland.

He pointed out that he found the National Congress to be the most suitable party through which he could work for consolidating peace and realizing development in the country.

Deng described the Peace Agreement as the basic guarantee for the unity of Sudan, calling for explaining it to all the Sudanese people so that they could contribute to its implementation.

He said the peace that has been realized is not the responsibility of the government and the SPLM only but it is a collective responsibility.

Deng commended the great efforts exerted by Taha and Garang for concluding the agreement which has received the approval and consent of all the Sudanese people.
