Salva Kiir pledges support for Abuja peace talks
Sept 19, 2005 (KHARTOUM) — The first vice-president, Salva Kiir Mayardit, has pledged to support the efforts being made by the government’s delegation at the Abuja talks with the aim of achieving a comprehensive solution to the Darfur crisis.
He said this during a meting with Majzoub al-Khalifah, the chairman of the government’s delegation, who briefed the vice-president on the negotiation process, and the stages it had passed through from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to Abuja, as well as the number of peace accords signed with the Darfur rebel groups.
Khalifah said the first vice-president pledged to make a follow-up to the Abuja peace talks, and expressed his unreserved support for efforts to resolve the Darfur crisis in order to realize peace and stability in the region.
