Sudan’s Darfur Committee urges SPLM participation in Abuja peace talks

Oct 29, 2005 (KHARTOUM) — Sudanese government spokesperson urged the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) participation in the seventh round of Darfur peace talks in Abuja, saying that peaceful solution is the only way for Darfur crisis.

Rebe_listen.jpgThe next round of peace talks between the Sudanese government and rebel groups in the country’s western region of Darfur will start on Nov. 20.

Minister of Information, the Government Spokesperson al-Zahawi Ibrahim Malik issued this statement at the end of the meeting of the High Committee on Darfur (HCD).

The HCD held a meeting at the Republican Palace on Friday 28 October chaired by Sudanese president Omar al-Beshir and attended by the firs vice-president Salav Kiir and the second vice-president Ali Osman Taha.

The HCD has affirmed keenness on realization of security and stability in Darfur. It also avowed commitment to all protocols and agreements on security arrangements so as to enable the African Union to carry out its tasks and to avoid any future security violations by any party.

According to the spokesperson, the committee stressed in a meeting the necessity of imposing the rule of law and to bring before justice every one who violates the public right and rights of the others.

The minister added that theHCD called for enhancing the humanitarian situation by providing basic needs of the people in the area.

The sixth round of African Union (AU)-sponsored talks on the 32-month crisis in Sudan’s Darfur region ended on Thursday in Nigeria with with mediators and delegates saying modest progress had been made.
