SLM’s Minawi receives Egyptian medical team to Darfur
July 2, 2006 (AL-FASHER) — Leader of a Darfur rebel faction that signed peace deal with Khartoum received today the head of an Egyptian medical team dispatched by the Arab League to troubled region.
The leader of Sudan Liberation Movement, Minni Minawi, met Sunday at the headquarters of the African Union Mission in Al-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State, with Dr. Muhsin Mustafa, the Dean of the Egyptian Faculty of Medicine and head of the Egyptian medical delegation, which was dispatched by the Arab League to operate in Darfur states.
Representatives of the Darfur Network Organizations and the federal and North Darfur Ministries of Health attended the meeting.
The meeting discussed the preparations to launch the work of the Egyptian medical mission in Darfur. Menawi has appreciated the mission of the Egyptian doctors’ team which is include 16 specialist doctors, and underscored the citizens need for their services.
The Egyptian medical delegation brought three tons of medicines and medical equipment for Darfur people.
Head of the Egyptian mission lauded the eternal and firm ties between the Sudanese and Egyptian peoples, indicating that they will leave to operate in Nyala city, the capital of South Darfur, for a period of 45 days.
