Sudanese presidency discuss peace implementation
March 10, 2007 (KHARTOUM) — President Omar al-Bashir, the first vice-president of the republic and president of the Government of Southern Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit and Vice-President Ali Osman Taha today held a meeting in the Republican Palace. They discussed today the implementation of security arrangement.
Presidential Press Secretary Mahjoub Fadl Badri said in a press statement that the meeting discussed progress in the implementation of the security arrangements of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement and heard a report on progress in the implementation of the agreement with respect to establishment of the Joint Defence Council, the Joint Integrated Units and the Joint Cooperation Committee on the other armed groups.
He added that the presidency got acquainted with the financial and administrative structure of the command of the Joint Defence Council for redeployment of the Sudan armed forces and the Sudan People’s Liberation Army besides deployment in the positions of the Joint Integrated Units and redeployment of forces in northern and southern Sudan and military training for the joint forces.
Badri further said that the meeting underscored the progress of work in the above-mentioned axes and that talks will resumed after two months to look into progress made in the implementation of security arrangements and to remove any obstacles that may impede the work. The presidency expressed satisfaction over the progress made so far in this regard.
