Chinese vice FM to attend Paris conference on Darfur
June 21, 2007 (BEIJING) — A Chinese delegation headed by Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Yesui will attend an international conference on Darfur issue held on June 25 in Paris, Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said here Thursday.
Zhang will fully express China’s stance on Darfur issue at the conference, Qin told a regular press conference held here on Thursday.
“China supports all efforts that is conducive to peaceful solution of the Darfur issue, “Qin said.
The conference, to be hosted by France on June 25, is a ministerial meeting to discuss the crisis in the western Sudanese region of Darfur.
The French side has sent invitations to the United Nations, the African Union, the European Union and the United States, South Africa, China as well as Sudan and other countries. However, the Sudanese government announced on June 12 its refusal to attend the conference.
