Mundari community forum ends with calls for peaceful co-existence

January 16, 2022 (JUBA) – A three day peace and reconciliation conference concluded in the capital, Juba on Thursday with calls for peace co-existence among the Mundari community of South Sudan.

More than 300 stakeholders, including clerics, traditional chiefs, intellectuals, county commissioners, youth leaders graced the conference held under the theme, “May they all be one. John 17: 21”.

Speaking during the forum, the Archbishop of the Episcopal Church of South Sudan’s Central Equatoria Province, Paul Yugusuk urged the Mundari community to live in peace and reconcile with each other.

“Living in harmony with each other is key to peace and stability. Let’s love one another, reconcile and forgive one another,” he remarked.

The commissioner of Terekeka County, James Lino reiterated calls for peace, stressing that conflict has destroyed the Mundari community.

“We should advocate for peace. No one wants a return to war,” he said.

Lino urged everyone to forgive one another in the new year, saying 2022 has comes with new changes that everyone should embrace.

“We to forgive ourselves as the Mundari community,” he stressed.

The three-day conference, organized by the Church Leaders Peace Initiative with support from the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) and its partners aimed reconciling the Mundari communities in order to enable them realize sustainable peace among themselves.
